One of the fun things about saying yes to all the custom projects people have asked me to do recently, is how diverse they are. Just this month for example I am designing a Harry Potter themed birthday party, I am in talks to upholster a motorcycle seat as part of a restoration project, I just finished making a construction site birthday cake and my favorite project of all so far, a steampunk themed couples costume for an upcoming Halloween ball.
I have decided to go with the lady and her driver theme, not very inventive I know but keep it simple has always been my motto, too may ideas makes for a muddy design, so a straight up steampunk classic is where its at.
I want to make sure they have fun, so started with the props, first stop, a steampunk weapon -what big kid doesn’t want to run around with a gun that shoots vodka!
So here are the nuts and bolts of it
A 2 dollar squirt gun, and a few bits and pieces from the local craft store. and my sons lid from his apple sauce he was eating as he stared at me accusingly, unconvinced this was going to work .
A bit of contact adhesive and a few swear words later…
Of course spray paint is your friend it hides a multitude of sins…
Then came my favorite bit, I’m a painter, I love to paint, I love that paint can turn a plastic toy squirt gun into something fantasy and wonderful, so a couple of hours later….
and yes it still works, so he can squirt vodka to his hearts content!
Part 2 of the steampunk adventure to follow very soon!
