Something catastrophic happened a few weeks ago, my son announced he did not ‘do’ Halloween and no amount of candy was going to change that.
Now I felt this was open for debate, he has only been on the planet for three Halloweens and up until this point he has had no choice, one lion, one Doctor Who and a Mary Poppins family later I beg to differ, but now he has an opinion!
Not being able to create costumes for film and theatre anymore has left a little hole in my life, and I’m not going to say dressing my kid up for Halloween was the only reason for giving birth, but…just kidding- I know the internet would have a field day with that nugget of text, however in all seriousness I was somewhat dismayed that he didn’t want to participate in such a fun holiday. I am not a cool human by nature, costume is my only slightly cool thing, it was going to be my saving grace when he becomes a teenager – my only shred of coolness was going to be I was that mum that made the Bat suit, but it seems I was thwarted at 3 years old, and then…
How to train your dragon was on the TV.
“I want to do that for Halloween mommy,” he announced.
“You want to be hiccup for Halloween” I replied startled, trying not to get too excited.
“No silly that,” he replied pointing to the 16 foot long dragon… Sigh.
So here is the next costume on the list (I know, I start early- I have a few on the go for other people and there are only so many weeks left until the end of October!!) Its a hoodie, fleece lined for the cold weather which he will wear with jogging bottoms. I tried to make it as clothing like as possible, so he doesn’t feel restricted or like he is wearing a costume. So far he loves it, so I guess Halloween is a go! Phew!
Now onto the next one!!
