There is truly something magical about birthday cake, I love creating something beautiful that looks great, is edible and made of cake … I mean what is better than that!
I got very excited when a friend asked me to make a birthday cake for a Harry Potter themed birthday party. Harry Potter is very close to my heart, it was my first internship out of drama school (something which I argued and fought over for 3 months- trust me persistence, pig pigheadedness and plain old stubbornness can be a fantastic quality to have… I will regret saying that one day I’m sure, because my son is just like me!)
However! Harry Potter was my first experience of working in the film industry, it was an awe inspiring experience- life changing in fact, it also got me my first big break working on the bat suit for the Batman Begins shortly after, and I have never looked back. So getting to make a magical cake was brilliant!
Here are the pictures of the process… Except for the icing work on the top… I think I was concentrating so much I forgot to take pictures of that. It is a vanilla cake with chocolate buttercream. I used just two colors of fondant to decorate, chocolate brown and pale yellow, then it was just a lot of patience, painting and glitter….wonderful edible glitter!
Hope you like it as much as I like making it!
