One week in and we are making progress! The laminate floor is up and the trim is being removed. Anything original is being labelled and transferred to the barn and the rest is finding its way to the dump. Josh LJ and I made a unconventional family outing to the dump very early on Saturday morning (twice!) and then caught a quick breakfast at our new local, it was really lovely to have a little family time, even if it was surrounded by waste!
The initial demolition has revealed some wonderful secrets, and I cant wait to see what else the old lady has. When we removed the bar we found what seems to be remnants of the original wall paper, a beautiful teal with a white floral pattern. I opened the cupboard in LJ’s room to find 21 original hooks, the kind you pay a fortune for in shabby chic store, all just sitting there looking you know…old :-). Then there was the original sub floor, for a moment there I was super excited to it bring back to life (I even got a quote) but on further inspection and removal of the rest of the laminate, its just on the side of not salvageable, and as sad as this is, I think its the first compromise of many! Lastly, the previous owner gifted us a box of treasures, things that have been found or left with the house over the years, I haven’t gone through it yet, I really need the time to catalogue and preserve it properly but there are letters from 1880, and I’m really excited about it!
The next few days are going to be quieter, then its getting quotes back and more floor removal. Right now it looks like we shall move in in 6 weeks…but Ive seen the TV shows, schedules are always flexible 🙂
