Today, we moved in! My lasting impression of the day will always be how wonderful it felt watching the amount of people that turned up to help us, when a year ago we knew no one!
Compared to other moves we have made, this was completely different, it felt festive! people turned up with vans and trailers, friends offered childcare and cleaning help, the house was filled with kids running around and playing, there was much tea drunk and we catered at lunch with sandwiches, beer and smoked meats all bought from the village. Halfway through the day everything stopped for an epic snowball fight. The house took on a real family atmosphere, at one point I think there were over a dozen people in it, every room filled with noise and it was awesome.
It might still have holes in the walls, half our stuff is still at the old house, the floors might be unnervingly sloped (so much so I’ve marked the walls to check that its not a subsidence thing, you know just to calm my crazy anxious weirdo self) We are missing trim, the bathroom still looks like it belongs to the Adams family, but right now it feels more like home than I could have ever imagined a house would.
