It is no secret that the last few months the house projects have been somewhat ‘on hold.’ This surprisingly hasn’t been as frustrating as I imagined it would be because the garden and yard work has been nothing but glorious (Stupid hard work but glorious none the less!)
So with the three day weekend approaching we decided to tackle one of the part finished rooms inside the house and make a start on the focal point of the living room, the fire place.
I had a conversation today about how I make design choices for the projects in the house, after thinking about it I had to admit I don’t really make many. Before we started this journey I had dozens of pinterest boards, endless colour choices and hundreds of ideas. Then we got here. It seems to me that the house has a real energy about it, everyone that visits comments on it and this energy seems to be dictating the pace and design of the renovations. I’m not saying that the house whispers to me in my sleep or anything like that, that would be weird, but it does have a sense of what will fit and what wont. Grand ideas for a claw footed bath and a black and white tiled bathroom may be all the rage but when we get to it, it just might not be the right fit. The ideas just seem to present themselves as we move through the many money pit like tasks we come across!
The fire place is no exception! It went like this:
J “How big should it be’
Me “Not sure”
J “But if you could pick?”
Me “Its hard to visualize, can you just start building?”
J… non impressed face.
Let it be said he is awesome, and gets me, and this is what we came up with (as a team of course 🙂 )
Not a bad weekends work at all. It was punctuated with marshmallow roasting and painting, lots of sunshine and a really really great martini!
All in all it was a good one!
