March Round Up (In April)

March, March, March, what can I say except what a ride. So much stress coupled with what seems to be an endless winter (yes it is April 15th and still snowing) meant much of the house progress has come to a grinding halt. Cont...

Day 63 – Braving The Wilderness

So today I went and bought bigger tools...there was probably something quite comical about the British lady walking into the farm store in a pair of heels, chatting to the farmers, picking up an axe, paying for it and leaving. Who knows maybe I made a few new friends. Cont...

Day 54 – Reasons why we moved.

So we have been in our house a week, not much of the interior of the house has changed. More of our stuff is slowly arriving, and I am unpacking it into cupboards. Josh replaced the upstairs bathroom sink and shower head so we can you know, be clean, which after six weeks of renovations feels like a new concept 🙂 Cont...

Day 38 – An Enormous Push Forward!

Its been a huge week at the house, not just with the building but also on a family level. we found out that the youngest member of our family has to have his tonsils out pretty sharpish, as they are so bug they are causing him to stop breathing at night! Not ideal, this new nugget of information has pushed our schedule and given us a new sense of urgency because I really don't want to have a little one recovering from surgery in a half built house. So you know, as always no pressure! Cont...

Day 27 – Progress!

We spent a wonderful hour or so squelching through mud in a field full of reclaimed barn bits, and there sat on top of a pile of beams we found our new mantel! We have been really wanting to make the fireplace a feature of the sitting room and this piece is perfect. Even better we know how old it is and where it is from (a 1910 barn structure in Bay City Michigan) So there is a story there too, for you know, when we eventually have people over for dinner. Cont...

Day 25 – cabin fever

Did I mention I'm impatient... so very impatient. The problem with the beginning of a project is the prep work, you know the mind numbing tedious stuff that you will never see, but if you don't do right the whole house will fall down, yeah that stuff, well I'm in the middle of that and it's brutal. Cont...

DAY 15 – All The Things

We have reached the stage of discombobulation, that period of time where everything is up in the air, not quite right and a little 'off'. This is the first full week for us since the holidays, all of our guests have gone, the house is half packed and in disarray and the new house has no floors and walls. So you know...situation normal. Cont...

Day 8 – Treasures

The initial demolition has revealed some wonderful secrets, and I cant wait to see what else the old lady has. When we removed the bar we found what seems to be remnants of the original wall paper, a beautiful teal with a white floral pattern. Cont...

Day 4

I have to admit it was a record even for us, we got the keys on Monday and the demolition derby started last night...4 days of restraint...and on one of those days the keys were buried in a snow drift so we couldn't get in, so there was that. Cont...
